Kimmo,

The tubes pivoted on top of the fixed uprights either side of the turret. A rod was attached to the tubes as well on a pivot in front of the upright. The rod ran down through the centre of the spring. When the tubes were depressed by the link on the main armament the weight of the tubes fell under their own weight compressing the springs. When the gun was elevated the springs expanded helping to lift the weight of the tubes. Sorry not very good at explaining it and don't have any software to add arrows to point out what I mean. But I hope this had made it a bit clearer.

They were counterbalance springs to help lift the weight of the tubes as the gun system wouldn't have coped with the added weight. Given they are at the back near the pivot point there wouldn't be a lot of noticeable movement on the springs. HTH.

Kimmo,

great progress I had the same issue with the elevation gear and replaced a lot of it. Hope this helps. It may not be 100% correct but it looked better.

Thread: 2017 Small Scale Group Build (SSGB17)
18/01/2017 11:48:32

Hi All,

Some cracking builds in progress and finished. I can now take part at long last as my offering has turned up all the way from Oz. It is the old (1986) Scammell tank transporter. On opening the box my first impression is, this will take a lot of cleaning up as the mouldings are not very good, soft detail and a whole lot of flash. Adding to this I have not worked with such small bits since I was a kid.

I have made a start on the cab and added some glazing which was not included in the kit. I will add some pictures later when there is something to see.

Cheers Scottie

Si,

That is an excellent looking build, as others have said could be mistaken for 35th the detail is great. Looking at the quality of the smaller scales available today I am tempted to have another look at them.
