Thanks Dirk - Carl's the man. Pity he no longer frequents these waters.

John - Thanks also. We did end up spending more than we planned, funnily enough. Still, she's settled and happy and doing well on her course. It got to 33 degrees c on the way back as well. I'm trying to get any painting done before about 11 when it just gets too hot. Having said that, I can't seem to resist doing the odd bit of tweaking during the day.

The first figure is now finished:

Just the hands, rifle and panzerfaust to do this session.

I can't paint panzerfausts in dunkelgelb for some reason - I always get in a mess - so as some were produced in panzer grey, I've gone for that (I suppose the colour depended on available paint stocks at the time). To give it a metallic look, I rubbed it over with powdered graphite at the final stage, as I did with the metallic parts of the rifle. The strap was made from paper as usual, and the buckle is a Verlinden spare.

Next, the Tiburzy figure....

Hi Peter

He looks great and the coat is so much better with that weathering around the bottom. Just one little thought if you don't mind. The back of his boots, the heels, look rather clean considering dirt has splashed up onto the back coat hem.

Cheers Jim

You're right about the back of the boots - I'll work on it.

OK Jim, I've worked on the boots a bit more:

I also decided to get on and paint Tiburzy's head:

Not sure he looks too much like the real thing:

Tiburzy was 33 years old in 1944, but I think Verlinden have made him look older. He should also be much thinner in the face. Still, I suppose he's recognizable.

Hello again!

I'd forgotten that I was going to give this chap a pipe:

Fortunately, I found it on the floor before the carpet monster got to it - the heat must have made it drowsy.

Dirk and Jim, many thanks for posting.

I think I was a bit disappointed with the first figure, hence my moan about Ernst.

The Volkssturmer is not a particularly good sculpt, the coat, as I've already mentioned, being a bit devoid of folds and creases. I've done my best with him, but I'm not sure I'll pair him with Ernst if he turns out better.

Peter.
