It's time to start another bust. this time it will be the tank commander from young miniatures. On a past thread Jimbo stated he would like to see this one build so this is the one I will start today. I will start with the copula as I feel it may take the most time. I will have to go back to my armor days 100 years ago lol. so Jimbo here you go my friend.

Hi Rick

Many thanks - appreciated. Stunning sculpt. The jacket will be perfect for your skills. Does it come with the map case?

Hi

This figure, which I'm sure you know, is based on the SS officer Max Wunsche so you should be able to find plenty of images to help your painting.

Max Wunsche

Wunsche is on the left with the head wound

The jacket appears to be a custom made item, which was quite common for senior officers to do. It may be that this was created from a large batch of Italian Camo fabric "liberated" by the SS in Italy when they (Italians) decided oust Mussolini from power and sign a peace treaty with the Allies. It certainly isn't standard SS issue.

Here is a reproduction tunic sold as Italian WW2 camo but do check out other references.

Good luck with the painting.

Alan

Steve.

your right, didn't take me long at all I get that bug and can't stop painting sometimes lol.

I have some more research photos I found interesting. the first is I think the photo this bust was copied from. looks spot on. the rest is of the panther cupola and more interesting is the color of the tanks interior . I always thought it was white but this looks like the color used to basecoat the tanks for camo the (yellow tannish) ? was on the insides as well. the map will be added for the hand and also in the map case.

Should have some progress soon.

Rick,

Nice choice mate thumbs up. Have always`s liked this figure, good to have a bit of extra detail. I think that internal shot of the tank is the Off White just discoloured through wear .

Good bit of info there Alan

Looks a good bust, face maybe a bit stocky but on the whole a great display piece.
