Gary,

I'm afraid that 1/72 is now a bit too small for me, I'm sticking to 1/48 ( or larger! )

After a few smears of filler, here and there - nothing too bad - I've primed overall ( stabilisers and elevators separately ). Normal Vallejo Grey Surface Primer

I used to have a lot of problems with the primer, nozzle blocking, spatter etc, but I spray at a lower pressure ( 1.5 bar ), thin slightly with water, and clean the a/b thoroughly after use, and that seems to work.

After the primer had dried overnight, I sprayed the uppersurfaces with Vallejo ModelAir 323 Dark Earth.

Pleasantly surprised by this, used straight out of the bottle - covered evenly, with no need for a second pass!.

The Dark Green camo will be brush painted - these aircraft seemed to have hard edged camouflage, so rather than masking, I'll do it freehand.

Just noticed in latest ''Just Coming'' on Airfix website,

Hawker Hurricane MK 1 1:72 NEW TOOL

What.....? I thought they'd done this already.

I've got one waiting to be built. Looking at the parts on the sprue, it looks really good.

Puzzling. Anyway, I'm happy enough and merely surprised.

The 1/48 version is looking grand, Dave.

Undersurfaces...................

hurricane sky.jpg

Vallejo ModelAir 302 Sky Type S - covers well with one coat - drying with a satin finish - unlike the matt dark earth uppersurface.

Next will be the upper dark green camouflage pattern.

First pass with the upper camo - Vallejo ModelAir 324 Dark Green. This paint doesn't like brush application, it will take several coats to cover evenly......

After finalising the camouflage, I will have to mask for a Sky S Band around the rear fuselage ( one of the reasons I've not added the stabilisers yet ).

The camouflage is finished, and the Sky S band has been added.

The underside still needs the undercarriage, radiator flap etc.................

Now it's time for an overall gloss varnish, for decals, and panel washes

Mostly decalled - missing are the stencils, and the serial number ( it goes partly over the squadron codes )

After all the decals are nicely bedded down, I'll seal them all in with gloss varnish ( I'm using Humbrol Clear ) - then panel wash - especially on the underside.

Whilst I am waiting for bits to dry, I've been pondering on my next build, and I'm going to have a crack at this

zvezda t-35 2016.jpg

This is the 2016 moulding, not the archaic ICM/Eastere Express boxing.............

How's that for a bit of ambitious moulding? All you have to do is get it off the sprue in one piece!

Ha Dave this will test your patience !

Glad to read it's a new moulding , the StuG I'm doing at the moment has so much flash , it's an old one 😈half the location holes missing !
