I have managed to source a number of these figures from eBay and toy fairs. It seems a shame that Airfix did not produce more of their 54mm figures in the larger scale. Considering the age of the figures, they paint up reasonably well.

One of the Coldstreamers had to have a face made from Milliput and helmet chin strap from brass wire. The Lifeguard was painted as a Horseguard with a few appropriate embelishments. The trumpet cords were from solder wire, the tassels from turned and engraved sprue, and I hand painted the trumpet banner, rather  than use the (faded) sheet provided.

It brings back happy memories of pocket money, Woolworths or W H Smith on a Saturday morning, too much glue and gloss enamel paint.

Happy memories,

Hi Mike, great work, thanks for sharing, I still have a soft spot for these figures, would be nice to see a re run, or even for airfix to bring out a new range...
Still  dont have all the 1/12 figures and on ebay they can go for a ransom, but have all the 54mm figures. I make one up every now and again...great childhood memories.

hope you can share some more of these figures with us....

These, and Airfix's 54mm & 1/32 Multi Pose offerings still hold up well as worthy figures. I wish they still offered them here in the U.S. as I would buy up examples of the entire line!

Sweet memories of youth.

Mike,

Thanks for this. I remember the conversions for these figures in the old Airfix Magazine. I wish they would release these figures again. Or, better still, a new range of 1/12th figures.

I have suggested it to Airfix. If Mini-Art can produce good quality 120mm (1/16) figures, there's no reason why Airfix could not resurrect their old 1/12 (150mm) range. Some of the 54mm figures were produced in the larger scale. I suspect that they all would sell well as larger figures with a little attention to detail.

With a little imagination, even Princess Anne can become an Australian Light Horseman:

Happy modelling and best wishes,

Mike

Mike,

good to see these figures again - i always wanted the Lancer but could not afford it.

I did eventually do Henry Viii and Anne B for my mum - I have to say they were pretty ropey quality and needed a lot of work to get them together.

I think I still have a duplicate set of the same two somewhere in the stash.

Somewhere I have loads of the 54mm and multipose as well as i bought them up from local shops -  favourite was the Legionnaire

thanks for the trip down memory lane
