| 294 forum posts 84 photos | So here I go again.... Even more colour in this one. Time to try out a few more techniques and styles etc which have been picked up from the figure painters on the site. Hope it all comes together! Box art first - Sorry....... Seems that the gremlins are back - unable to upload pictures again. Error message is becoming a bit common recently - same has been going on since yesterday 25\04\2010, oh for a stable platform in this brave new world! Will try again another time. Tim |

I will be looking in on this one,my interest in this era is growing by the day.
Can i pick your brain and ask you if you know of any reference material available for Dragoons?
I have just purchased the 120mm 6th Inniskillin Dragoon from AMP and i cannot find any decent refence material.
Hope you can help.

Try some of the Osprey titles, the will have just what you are after, with very good illustrations.

| 294 forum posts 84 photos | Paul Malcolm beat me to it, Osprey books would be my first port of call. I find that not all the titles are available when you want, but as reference material they are good when you get what you are looking for. Malcolm It took me a while to find something that I wanted to do. It was the colour combinations on this one that sold it to me. As I said, I am very happy with the choice and the quality of casting is very good, nice and crisp. Will try to keep this updated on a regular basis and with a long weekend coming up I hope to get well stuck in as they say. Tim |

| 294 forum posts 84 photos | I am not sure if I will live to regret this, but I have started with the finer detail. Many times in the past, when trying to paint the fine detail, I have found that you go over the margins and then have to either start again, or paint as carefully as possible up to the detail. I am hoping that going this way I may find it easier to paint up to detail cleanly and avoid the slips which always seem to ruin things. However, if it does not work out then I know it will be back to the sink for a clean and start again! So starting with all the lace work. I gave this a light wash with chocolate brown and then started to apply thinned layers of deep yellow. I will continue to build this up adding depth and highlights as required and see where it takes me. Both colours mentioned are Vallejo Model Color which in conjunction with Citadel I find very good to work with. |

| 450 forum posts 1 photos | Before you add too much detail to the lacing, I would be inclined to add some of the pale blue to the area surrounding the lacing, and then a little under lining.
This would help prevent you catching the lacing with a bit of the blue later on. You mentioned that you use some Citadel paints, do you use Iyanden Darksun, Adrian Hopwood recommended it to me as a good basecoat for yellows. Keep up the good work.

2585 forum posts 945 photos | Hi Tim , nice choice of figure
I have a number of Verlindens Napoleonics in the stash, I'll get back to them sometime . You've made a nice start but I would agree with Malc, it might be a good idea to add some of the pale blue around the lace before going to far .I look forward to seeing this one progress

| 294 forum posts 84 photos | Malcolm & Chris Thanks for your contributions. I was contemplating starting to infill around the lace etc and your comments where the final push so to speak. I have been itching to use my W&N Series 7 "000" brush on something worthwhile and what a joy it turned out to be. Certainly able to see what is what now. Now for a big question. All my reference books indicate that the Dolman is sky blue and when I was looking for a suitable colour I opted for Vallejo Deep Sky Blue, sky blue being a tad to light for my liking. Correct me if I am wrong, but the box art suggests an even darker shade of blue. Should I try to replicate this or stick with what I have? I am leaning towards sticking. All opinions welcomed. Tim |

| 450 forum posts 1 photos | I think the box art is quite close. but its worth checking, I remember painting a Hussar years ago with the shade of blue you are using.
