4173 forum posts 1381 photos | Hi all. Apologies for not blogging this as previously intended but there just wasn't time. This is the workshop kit that Airfix are providing for the kids modelling afternoon next weekend at Hamley's toy shop, Dubai. It comes in a plastic bag with turquoise sprues and is VERY well moulded. Everything fits perfectly and elements such as the prop, canopy, exhausts just snap into place with no glue required if you choose so. The workshop goodie bag comes with paints and brushes and glue. The Brown paint provided was totally wrong however, being Humbrol 70 instead of 29. I substituted some Tamiya brown for the build and only used the AB for the varnishes and smoke effects.
The paint required some thinning with water but I got an excellent smooth coverage with the supplied brushes, which I wasn't expecting. There's something to this brush painting after all Tim Issues..... none to do with the kit, just my own impatience as usual. Here she is: Fingers crossed the kids have as much fun with this as I did. Good luck with the event Peter. Nice build and sounds like the Spit is a better mould than the Hurricane.... |

Very, very nice Pete. Its just so much more difficult to build and paint in the toy scale and you really have nailed this one. With pictures this good and the same for the model i hope you'll submit some Pictures to Robin for a photo feature. neil. |

4173 forum posts 1381 photos | Rossco: Cheers mate. Chris: Much obliged sir. Nice link too. Harvey: The test kit provided is a completely different one to that offered in their normal starter kits. My son has just completed the Spit and Hurricane and they were pretty dire kits with the same problems as my P47D. Lets hope Airfix start to replace all their naff kits with better mouldings soon. Neil: You make me blush. Thanks. Pete |
