2564 forum posts 1291 photos 5 articles | HI Chaps - after watching Craig Hiscock's project undergoing a major workout, he has inspired me to try my hand at this lovely model. I am thinking of finishing it in the four colour scheme as depicted in this museum piece. Can anyone confirm if the khaki-brown secondary colour is relatively correct ? Can anyone provide advice or lead me to a reference on this ? Edited By Mark Bannerman on 24/06/2012 16:13:23 |

I'd be interested in the answer as well chaps because my refs on this are very limited and pictures of this scheme seem hard to come by, well clear ones any way
Real good to see this kit in your hands as well Mark and if i may i would definitely recommend the Eduard Big Ed set if you want to shoe the interior

Thanks Craig - I have the Eduard set for the Tamiya offering but I am realizing that it is relatively useless as most bits don't fit. I think Big Ed is a must at this point. I am watching your blog carefully as my lead for the build Hey Johnny ! Good to see you. Mark |

Hi Mark, I'm looking forward to another of your masterpieces. Dick Taylor refers to this scheme as "the 22 Armd Bde four colour scheme" in his book Warpaint Vol 2: "In mid 1942 the 22nd Armoured Brigade used a fairly unique camouflage scheme designed by a CLY officer in which a darker colour - it was apparently a locally mixed Brown shade - was applied over a lighter base (Light Stone or similar), with the Brown camouflage tone being separated from the base colour with thin Black and White lines. The scheme does not appear to have been officially recognised or sanctioned, and may well have been found to be ineffective or quickly banned, as it was only in use for a short period of time." There's a b/w pic of a Grant in the scheme on P50 and a colour "chip" drawing on P51 which looks to me exactly the same as the colours above. I suggest you don't use the same Div markings as the museum example though. 22 Armd Bde used their own Stag's Head up until Jul '42 and the 7 Armd Div Red Jerboa after that. Units were 2 R Gloucs Hussars, 3 CLY and 4 CLY with AOS's of 40, 86 and 67 respectively.

2564 forum posts 1291 photos 5 articles | Thanks Ken. Brilliant info ! I will cut and paste your info for my research. I thought I had Dick Taylor's
book but I must have loaned it out to someone - who has decided to make it a permanent loan Thanks for that info Mark
