127 forum posts | Guys I'm trying to do a KV-85 out of a KV and IS-1 so need to create/adjust the turret ring on the upper KV hull, so any ideas/links for doing this either on the turret or the hull.......the turret ring would be the easier to make smaller? |

Get an OLFA compass cutter (you can get cheapo ones but they are rubbish) and superglue a strip of thick plasticard under the hull ring. You can get them from places like hobbycraft or from ebay
measure the diameter and locate the centre of the of the hull ring on the plasticard and then use the compass cutter to cut the ring to the desired diameter. It will take a LOT of gentle turns to do it, but don't try and rush it or your circle will likely deform
Keep going till you cut it and job, as they say, is a good un. If you need to replace a raised ring around the hole, use the cutters and some thick card to make a new one |

1969 forum posts 413 photos 1 articles | If you need to make the hole in the hull top smaller rather than larger, it's easy. Measure the ring under the turret and the hole that it needs to fit into.Just take a thin strip of plastic - 10 thou is easiest to use - and curl it by rubbing along one side with the back of your knife's body (not the blade). Then cement one end into the moulded ring and gently press the strip around the hole. Build it up a bit at a time, cementing as you go, until the hole's diamater is the same as the turret's or a fraction larger. Then cut out the gaps for the turret's securing lugs. Cheers John |

127 forum posts | Chris, John.....Many thanks for taking the time to reply guys. I like your method Chris and will remember that one, but don't think I could use it here. The trumpeter KV uses a separate upper panel with the turret ring in place with no real leeway making it bigger. Which leaves the only option of somehow making the turret's ring smaller? This is from PMMS to help describe what I mean The actual turret's ring is about the same dia as the enire hull turret ring in the picture, as you can see I can't really trim that to make any larger hence I can only make the turret's side smaller....if possible? |
