1332 forum posts 753 photos | Well, having been a modeller in my dim & distant youth, I discovered the joys of beer, ladies and playing Heavy Metal around Europe, and the hobby was forgotten about... ...then I got an illness that made me take time off work, and instead of twiddling my thumbs in front of the Playstation, I decided to revisit the old joy of styrene instead. I had no idea just how far the sport of Modelling had come! Suddenly it's all PE and aluminium barrels and MiG pigments and individual track-links, whereas in my day, we thought Acrylics were pretty slick! Suffice to say it has taken me little time to embrace the "new" stuff, as well as finally obtaining the airbrush and compressor I could never afford back in the day. I'm looking forward to posting some of my efforts here for your appraisal. I've been kit bashing a few Panzer IVs to get used to the AB, and have just completed my first ever scratch-build/conversion of a Tiger 1. I've got some nice stuff in my stash too, including a Dragon King Tiger superkit and a CyberHobby Firefly that I'd appreciate some advice and tips on. i really enjoy the build blogs that you guys post here, and have been drawing plenty of inspiration (and frankly outright theft) of some of the techniques you use. i don't intend giving this obsession up again... |

1461 forum posts 473 photos | Hello Road of Bones, Welcome to Mil-Mod, and please give us a real name to work with. I'm sure you will enjoy this community and all it has to offer. Many of us are back in the hobby after a long respite, and are in the midst of a steep learning curve. That is what makes this site so much fun. Apart from the great banter and camaraderie, the help and advice available from the gents here is priceless. Look forward to seeing some of your work soon, Bud. Cheers! BB |

1332 forum posts 753 photos | Thanks bob, Dean! Road of Bones is my online nom de plume (I frequent the F1 forums, and have developed something of an attachment to it). I'll add my real name to my profile. I've been reading the section on creating photo albums, and I've got a fair few WIP pix of my recent builds stored on my iPad, which is my principle method of accessing the web these days- does anyone know if I can upload them directly to the "my photo albums" section, or are the files too large? Thanks, Alistair |

1599 forum posts 2767 photos 3 articles | Hi Alistair, and welcome to MilMod. You can upload photos directly to your album, but there are a couple of tips to bear in mind. 1) Make sure the files aren't too big. 1Mb id the limit, I think, but if you can compress them to about 200kb, then so much the better. 2) Make sure the file names aren't too large. I'm not sure of the exact character limit, but I've bee stumped trying to upload an image before and found that when I renamed it so something shorter it uploaded no problem. 3) The uploader won't let you upload an image if there is already an image in your albums with the same name To upload an image, click on "My Photos" in your profile. Then click on "Create a Photo Album". Give your album a name and (if you like) a description. Ude the browse buttons to find the images you want to upload; there is a maximum of 5 images at a time, but you can add more later. Click on "Upload". Once the images are Uploaded you can organise them in the album and then click "Save". Easy, but slightly time consuming, once you are used to it. Which bands did you play in? If you're anything of a Maiden fan, you might find this thread of interest.

1332 forum posts 753 photos | Thanks Sean, I seem to be unable to forge (scratchbuild?) a link between my iPad photo album and the forum- one has to assume that Apple have decided that JPEGs are beneath them presumably. I've got a home PC, but it creaks mightily these days, and using it online is an exercise in futility and infuriation (hence the iPad). If anyone else has tried the iPad route, and can share tips...? i used to play bass for Bal-Sagoth - if anyone's heard of them, I'd be mightily surprised (though I did see that Dave Pybus is a member here, so I suppose he'll know of us!). 1599 forum posts 2767 photos 3 articles | Hi Alistair,
I'm not a Mac user I'm afraid, but I think that any image you upload does need to be a jpeg. I won't pass comment on Apple, other than to say it's a pity they don't support one of the most widely used image formats there is!

1332 forum posts 753 photos | Hi Nick, Thanks for the welcome! FYI I'm a regular on cliptheapex.com and Muzz, I used to be on BBC606 before they canned it, and you're right- they do get awfully tribal about teams/drivers on them all (though CTA is definitely the least partisan of the lot, IMO). If you guys don't mind, I'll stick with my NdP of Road of Bones- I'm used to it now, and it feels a bit weird using my real name online... |

Moderator 9001 forum posts 28973 photos 2575 articles | Hi Alistair,
Welcome back to the hobby, and on to the Mil Mod website. As Sean has said, the files need to be under 1meg each. Ideally, resize to a width of 1024 pixels and that results in a good file size and large enough picture to see well, and they have to be .jpg images. File names also need to be unique and without any extra punctuation. For example, a default file name such as DSC00123 is unlikely to be unique. Rename files for example, AliSherman1.jpg and you shouldn't have a problem. Hope that helps
Robin
