"Jobsworth" of the year award.

Hi all.

I was told of this one today and thought I'd share it.

On Monday morning, one of our trucks broke down in London, quite close to the Olympics site. Obviously this caused the usual chaos to traffic flow but since the driver (No, not me) had reported the problem and a tow truck was being sent, nothing more could be done.

At this point enters our prize jobsworth in his security van and and smart new uniform (Why do security firms insist on a uniform designed to American policeman spec?).......Leaving out the bad language, the conversation which followed went something like this;

"Why have you stopped here? You can't stop here"

"I've broken down"

"You can't stop here, it's a security risk, you'll have to move it"

"It wont move, I told you, I've broken down!"

"But you can't stop here, no-one can and we've got the power to give you a fine for stopping and a ticket. You can't stop here, it's a secure area, I'll have to issue you a fine and a ticket"

"So, if I were a terrorist wanting to blow myself up, would a ticket and a fine stop me doing it?.......I told you, it wont move, it's broken down and I'm waiting for the tow truck!"

"Well I'm just doing my job and you can't stop here, you'll have to wait somewhere else!"

At this point he wrote out his ticket and filled in his details for the fine, gave them to our driver, saying he'd be back in 20 mins and if he was still there, he'd get another ticket.

Sure enough, in 20 mins he was back but now the tow truck had arrived and was connecting up to our transporter;

"What are you doing? You can't do that here, it's a secure area, you can't stop here, you'll have to do that somewhere else"

Yes folks, he did issue the tow truck with a ticket and a fine too and both our company and the tow company are contesting them. I suspect it's only the fact that the whole area is watched over by a zillion cameras that prevented both drivers being arrested for murder!

At least we know we're safe...Any terrorist with a pipe bomb and a dream will be heavily fined.

Why need Britain tremble .....Will the last one out please switch off the light

Oh boy... that's way too much! I am glad you didn't scream 'Allah is great!' this time or something like that. Can't wait for the Olympics to start!

You have to give the security idiot a brake he is the only member of that well known company working everyone else cant be bothered

The above mentioned security company trying to recoup costs before ministers ask for the half the contract fee back lol

Classic case of not being able to use his brain there....obviously an aptitude test wasn't part of the job interview process!

Just another example of the current inability to apply common sense. One suspects the security chap has been given ticketing targets too.

Does anybody still think school league tables are a good idea?

And that is what is wrong with the UK right there!

Normal working folk get punished because it's easy to collect money from us, but when push comes to shove you can get bet that the the actual security when entering the arena will be poor.

Farcical!!

Hi Richard, I have been out of the force for a long time now but i cant remember private companies having the power to fine members of the public.if i owned your company i would be talking to my legal eagles.

got to agree with the sentiment of your post if this is the calibre of recruits for the olympics im going on holiday for the duration i live in schrapnell range of that place.I was always amazed how wide some peoples shoulders grow when they put on a uniform, pity the brain doesnt match it.
