Hey all,

I can't for the life of me find any British infantry in winter gear (1/35th). Every other nation has it represented. Did we just stay indoors and leave it to the Americans!?

I have been searching about and found an old thread from 2006 on Missing Lynx about the same topic and the general consensus was that there weren't any sets done. I have a dio brewing in my mind and I'm going to use the MiniArt tanker Brits but was looking for some infantry/NCOs etc

I'm no use at sculpting as everything would end up looking like Morph...

Any ideas? even stuff to convert?

Hello Ali,

Welcome to Military Modelling. As Johnny has mentioned there are a few figures from Resicast that are wearing Greatcoats. There is a LRDG figure stood wearing a greatcoat a change of head and it might be just enough.

Resicast are available direct: - Link
Historex Agents - Link

I hope this helps

Brian

Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcome and the info. The Resicast figs may just be the ticket. Hopefully there may be more options in the future. I'll pop an order into Historex!

I'm sure I saw a build once in one of the modelling mags that featured, at the very least, British tank crew in white winter coveralls: it depicted stalled vehicles in the freeze of 1944-45, as I recall. I'll see f I can at least try to locate this: it may not have been MilMod but the rival mag, Military Modelcraft International.

Is this helpful, at least as a starting point for conversions? I'm assuming the white winter coveralls were a uniform issue to all arms of service, therefore infantry would have worn the same with webbing on top and steel helmets?

Whoops, I see you already know of these. My error...

The Tank Oversuit was issued only to AFV Crews and therefore is not suitable for Infantry types. In late 44 the standard winter dress was the Grewatcoat and the leather Jerkin or both. Early in 45 the Windproof smock started to make an appearance and this can be seen with both Greatcoats and the Leather jerkin.

DML did a set of SAS in Windproofs which at a pinch can be used as a basis for Winter figures. The new DML Vickers and Crew are in Greatcoats so may be a start for some conversions

@Marshal - no problem, that's the one's I'm going to use. Thanks for looking them up though.

@Al - yeah, sorry, should have expanded on my use of them. The above set is what I'll use for my Cromwell crew. I have a free weekend as my girlfriend is away on a hen weekend so while the cats away the mice will......model. I was on the hunt for some winter infantry to add to the dio. I was reading up on the what and when of British winter gear yesterday so thanks for the info.
