Great Wall Hobby 1/35 UHU Box art

A late war subject, but now we see the second of the sWS variants which Great Wall Hobby, one of the arms of Lion Roar from China, have released.  We have already seen the unarmoured cargo version, which at the time of writing is being built here on the site by Andy Mitchell.  Now we have the armoured version of this halftrack and complete with a 60cm Infrared searchlight that is in itself, a lovely detailed sub-assembly.

All the parts are cleanly moulded and it will make up into an interesting and unusual end result.  Evidnce of the advances that German engineering was still able to manage towards the end of WW2, these early Infrared devices gave them the opportunity to see in the dark.  Better than trusting on eating carrots at least!  Now we know that Infrared devices are 'active', relying on the projectors of infrared light such as this, and as a result can be detected, with the right equipment.  These days we expect passive devices such as image intensifiers, which don't give away the position of the operator.  Still, it showed an attempt to gain the tactical advantage for being able to see in the dark.

I love the touch that thy have been doing as there is a poster included inside the box with the box art printed without all the text and branding of the box lid itself.  These could easily pop into a clip frame and go on your study wall.

Individual link track and some beautiful crisp detail.  A neat kit and one I plan to have a go at just so I've tried one of these Great Wall Hobby kits.  My first impression is if they carry on like this, we will have a very good range of kits from a (relatively) new manufacturer on our hands.  Pretty much being spoilt for choice it seems!

Thanks to The Airbrush Company here in the UK who passed on the details, and who are the UK importers.  They should be shipping this to the shops now.
