...the latest out now from Airfix
I have been looking forward to this since I first saw it in their catalogue for this year, as Airfix have turned their hands to a completely new model of the Tiger II Ausf B, the King Tiger. They have also gone for one fitted with the rare Porsche designed turret. Only 50 of those were built, after Porsche lost the contract for the new tank, and turrets they have already made were used on the hull of the winning design.
Moulded in a grey plastic, the detail is neatly done, with the track guards moulde upper hull. One piece tracks as usual with this smaller scale, it's not a complex kit. There are two colour and marking options provided for, with one in a 3-colour scheme Normandy with the 503 Abteilung in 1944. The second is a whitewash finish over a 3-colour scheme, also from the 503 Abteilung, by in Hungary in early 1945.
It is just so good to see the revitalised Airfix brand releasing good value new 1/76 military vehicle models again and they have done a good job of this new King Tiger.
