Eduard 1/72 Focke Wulf Fw 190A-5
One of the most effective German fighters of the Second World War, the introduction of the Fw 190 in mid-1941 came as a bit of shock to the RAF, who found its most powerful fighter to date, the Spitfire V, completely outclassed. The variant presented here by Eduard is the A-5 which was capable of carrying more ordnance and the BMW 801 D-2 engine was moved forward by six inches so as the adjust the centre of gravity which in turn enabled more weight to be carried in the rear fuselage.
This kit is a 2017 rebox with updated and new parts and is presented as Profipack Edition so you get a lot of extra parts, more decals than usual and a PE sheet. There are almost enough extra parts to produce two aircraft but I suspect that you will have to purchase a small overtrees kit on top to achieve this. The main plastic grey parts are held on three sprues two of which look almost identical with the exception of some under-wing panel details which feature bulbous panels for cannons. A fourth circular sprue holds the clear parts including at least four canopy options. The small but perfectly formed PE sheet, which is firmly centred on detailing the cockpit, holds a further 25 parts. The instruction booklet is A5 in size, full colour and contains crystal clear guidance from beginning to end including using a provided mask sheet at the final stage. At the rear of the instruction booklet there are five colour guides the following aircraft:- No. 2594 Flown by Maj Hermann Graf CO of JGr Ost, Bordeaux, France, Spring 1943; Hptm Walter Nowotny, CO I./JG54 Grünherz, Orel, Autumn 1943; No. 410055, flown by Uffz Bernhard Kunze, 2./JG1, The Netherlands, October 1942; No. 7328, flown by Hptm Dietrich Wickop, CO II./JG1, Woensdrecht, The Netherlands, May 1943 and Hptm Egon Mayer, CO of III./JG2 Richthofen, France, Spring 1943. On the back page of the instruction booklet is a very useful stencil position plan which is very useful for the large number of quality decals contained on two sheets.
Once again this is a superb kit of this classic fighter with no shortage of options during the build stages or the final finish. Thanks very much to Eduard for our sample which is available from all major outlets and online model stores.
