Eduard 1/72 F6F-3

The Grumman Hellcat was by some margin, the most successful carrier-based fighter which served with the US Navy, USMC and the FAA. The first production variant was the F6F-3 which was powered by a 2,000 Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp that could push this little fighter to a maximum speed of 380 mph. Eduard presents us with the F6F-3 in this ‘weekend’ edition kit which was first produced by the Czech company in 2011.

The box contains three main sprues in grey plastic, one circular clear sprue and a pair of decal sheets. The quality of the parts is outstanding; the panel detail on the fuselage, wings and tailplane is excellent and even the wheel wells do not disappoint. Cockpit detail is excellent and the general build is incredibly straight forward and precise especially with regard to the fitment of the wings and tailplane which slot into a recess which means that the chances of misaligning them is virtually nil.

On completion there was a number of extra components on the sprues such as spare engine cowlings, windshield and glass side windows and an array of weapons including bombs and rockets; not bad for a ‘weekend edition’ and for such a reasonable price. All in all a very high quality kit for a bargain price!

Thanks very much to Eduard for our review sample.
