Forgotten Archives 2

The Lost Signal Corps Photos by Darren Neely with artwork by Felipe Rodna

Following on from Forgotten Archives 1, this truly outstanding book draws from the work of US Army photographers from the 165th and 167th Signal Photo Companies. The book is crammed with 252 superb, high-quality photographs backed up by eight pages of colour artwork by Felipe Rodna. Each photograph is well-captioned, fully credited and next to each caption is an extended piece of information about the subject or the scenario unfolding. Each photographer featured is presented at the beginning of each of the eight chapters complete with some personal background while a ninth chapter covers ‘Cameramen in Action’.

The range of the photographs is huge but the one’s that stand out the most to me are the tanks stuck in the mud, those that have been brutally knocked out and the number of captured vehicles utilized by the US Army. The latter includes some excellent shots of a captured SdKfz.251 which has been painted white down its flanks, a red cross applied and serves the 84th Infantry Division Medical Unit. Another image of a M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage simply covered in bed sheets, renders it almost invisible in snowy conditions.

An incredible collection of photographs which I would highly recommend to all AFV modellers for inspiration and historians alike.
