Military Modelling - Super Diorama 2008
Aims of the event
The purpose of this diorama is to highlight the wide range and variety of talents found on the Military Modelling website and support the future growth and awareness of the Military Modelling community. It's a chance for you to display your work alongside your peers and is a great opportunity to meet up and strengthen bonds made on-line.
The Diorama itself will be based around the theme of an 'outdoor museum' in 1/35 scale, the base being provided for the event by the organiser Stuart Taylor and will measure 6' x 2' in size. Contributors will simply be required to provide the actual model/s that sit on the diorama and a small amount of information relating to the piece so viewers can read more about a particular model if they wish.
Contributions
As a contributor, you will be required to provide one or more examples of your work together with any Civilian figures you would like to include on the base. There will be a limited number of available spaces available on the scenic base, so unfortunately, not everybody who enters will be selected to display, though every effort will be made to include anybody who wishes to contribute. Each space will accommodate a model kit of no more than 110mm x 200mm, I ask that you produce more than one kit for display on the base, though only one may actually be needed on the day. The additional kit is requested in an attempt to limit damage should a person not be able to attend or display on the day.
What Kit?
Before you start, please provide the event organiser with a list of three possible builds for entry onto the diorama, you can indicate your first, second and third preference and all attempts will be made to accept your first choice. For instance:
I would like to build either:
1. Panzer IV F
2. Sherman DD
3. M3 Grant CDL Turret
This will ensure a decent variety of kits displayed on the base and prevent a diorama being full of the same vehicles. If you have any special requests which are larger than the dimensions stated above, please contact the organiser for consideration as there are a limited number of larger spaces.
The decisions of the organiser in any regard to the diorama and event logistics will be final. All stages of the project will overseen by Military Modelling.
Displaying your build
If you can get your model to the organiser two weeks before the event - great! There are other ways however, For example attendance at the event or personal delivery in advance. The key to this activity running smoothly is clarity of information. Please make the organiser aware to the best of your abilities how you intend to get the model to the event.
Disclaimer
No responsibility will be accepted for damage to models during or building up to the event. It is quite simple to pack models for transit, though it is the responsibility of the sender to make sure it is packaged correctly. Contributors should ensure that the packaging and packing are easily reusable, as the models will be returned to the builder in the same way it was received. It is understood the amount of time and effort that is put into the kit and all effort will be taken to ensure the models arrive safely at their destination.
Model Contribution
If you would like to contribute to the event, you should consider the following steps:
Due to the limited number of available spaces on the diorama, not everybody will be able to display their model. An example of your work is required by event organiser for consideration the organiser and Military Modelling. This can be submitted in a number of ways, for example a link to a blog entry of yours or an e-mail with pictures attached.
Propose three or more kits which you would like to build for the event. You can list these in order of preference as shown above.
Once all contributors have submitted their proposed kits, the event organiser will inform you which build is preferred for display and you will be allotted a number which refers to your position on the diorama. Entry must be by the 1st June 2008.
You will have ample time to complete the build and full support from the organiser. If there are any comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the organiser. We are here to help.
The build must be documented in the form of a blog on the Military Modelling web site, including good quality pictures and related text (unless otherwise arranged).
Builds must not include figures either in or on the vehicle and stowage should be kept to a minimum. If you are unsure, contact the organiser for advice.
Weathering should also be kept to a minimum, as they will be display in a museum context.
Together with the completed model, you may also wish to supply information or notes to follow the build. Basic information, such as; manufacturer, model info and a description of materials used will be required, but you may also wish to supply addition information and pictures which will be contained within a binder next to the diorama for people to browse at their leisure. Please supply all of this material on A4 sized paper.
Figure contributions
Civilian figures will be required to populate the diorama; the more figures included, the better the impact of the display. Anybody can contribute painted figures to the event and they will be warmly received. As with model contributions, these items will be returned in the packaging they were supplied in, see the above terms.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope that you are still interested in representing Military Modelling at upcoming shows in 2008. If you would like to contribute, consider the steps listed above and get in touch.
