Universal Carrier Stowage Set No.1
Ref. # 35.293
Scale: 1/35
Manufacturer: Resicast
Price: €22.50
Material: Resin

Introduction

For anybody that has built the venerable Universal Carrier from Tamiya, you'll be aware of it's various shortcomings, despite it being basically a great little kit. Over the years Resicast have made a number of upgrade and conversion sets, including replacements for the running gear, wading gear etc. Now they've issued this great little stowage set for it!

The set

As usual from Resicast, everything arrives well-packaged, safely sealed inside it's own little ziploc bag, and then wrapped in bubblewrap to prevent breakages. Inside there are a multitude of parts, which are easily enough, as the box says "..for two vehicles". In fact, unlike other cases of 'enough for two vehicles', everything in this set is unique. It doesn't mean, you get two of everything, so you have enough for two. It means simply that there is enough in the box to load up two Carriers.

Quality first. Each of the parts is supplied attached to its casting block. With some of the smaller parts, this means simply that you can score where it joins the block with a scalpel blade, and snap the piece off carefully. With some of the larger 'set' pieces, this means that the residue of the block, a couple of millimetres thick, will have to be sanded off or pared away. None of the parts were damaged in any way, and I could see no evidence of any air bubbles.

The detail on all the parts is superb. Included in the set are two large 'set' pieces, each of which would fit across the rear of a Carrier, with some smaller stacks of ammunition cans, oil cans etc., and interestingly....and usefully....two sets of rear suspension, which are depressed as to represent a heavy load. Clever. Also included is a replacement glacis complete with spare wheel and other stowage.

Conclusion

A beautifully turned out set of stowage for a specific vehicle, with many bits and pieces that can be used on other vehicles too. Highly recommended!
