Thunder Models 1/35 British Scammell Pioneer R100

Until recently, examples of British soft skins in 1/35 scale have been a rarity and in particular the Scammell Pioneer. Thanks to the earlier released IBG rendition, we now have some competition in the shape of this R100 Heavy Artillery Tractor thanks to Thunder Models who also released a TRMU30 which has been reviewed on our website; now we have plenty to choose from.

Inside the solid top opening box we have a dozen grey plastic sprues of which one is for clear parts, a pair of etched copper sheets, a piece of chain, silver thread, three nicely printed decal sheets and an A4 black and white instruction booklet with 16 pages. This really is a plan ahead/take your time build, which is spread across 26 stages although there are multiple tasks within each stage. The detail overall is excellent, although the 102hp Gardener 6-cylinder engine and suspension are worthy of special mention and previous issues with the radiator have been resolved and a replacement part is included. The rear double axle arrangement is as complex in model form as the real thing and as such, a couple of diagrams from a servicing manual have been included to help explain the position of the brake cables, servos and air bottles.

Finishing options are aided by a couple of full-colour, glossy laminated colour guides which give the following options; H4191088, 1st British Army, 54th Heavy Artillery Regiment, Operation Torch; H5418757 unknown unit in France 1944; WL256413 and a German captured vehicle in the Summer of 1943.

An excellent and popular subject which has been produced to a very high standard. Thanks to Pocketbond/Bachmann Europe PLC who are the UK distributor for this kit.
