...a diorama by Andrew Belsey
Site member Andrew Belsey is a professional architectural modellmaker by trade and these days has less time for his hobby. However, prompted by our feature on Andy Robertshaw's '24 Hour Trench', he sent through these pictures of a 1/285 (yes, that's right, it really is in the tiny scale of 1/285) diorama showing a section of the trenches on the Somme in WW1 which he built some time ago. The pictures in the album below will give a good idea of how he went about this excellent diorama.
It uses some figures from GHQ, a US based manufacturer of these tiny wargames figures plus a good deal of amazing scratchbuilding. Since then of course we have seen some other examples of his scratchbuilding WW1 artillery, and some tiny dioramas using the super detailed GHQ armour models, all finished to a very high standard indeed. You can find those in our forum.
My thanks to Andy for sending these through, and I am certain you will join me in congratulating him on such a super piece as this.
