History

Austrian born, Gaston Glock, designed the original Glock back in 1981. Shortly after, it gained so much popularity that it made its way into the Austrian Army. The pistol soon took off all over Europe, and in 1986 it had even become popular in the United States. In 1988, the production for the Glock 19 began, and the rest is history.

Overview and Specifications

Overall, the Glock 19 Gen 4 continues to remain popular, despite the release of the 5th generation. The G19 Gen 4 is known to go through thousands of rounds without a single malfunction, which is the definition of durability and reliability.

Safety

The G19 Gen4 consists of three different safeties, giving the user peace of mind. They are the trigger, firing pin, and drop safety.

However, keep in mind that if the magazine is still in the chamber, it will look clear when the slide is pulled back, but when it slides forward, it will put a round in the chamber. Therefore, always take out the magazine, then cock it back, to make sure the chamber is clear.

The trigger will be cocked forward and sticking out more when there is no round in the chamber and no magazine in the pistol.

Maintenance

As with everything, over time, certain components of the pistol will require replacement. In order to avoid jams, both the trigger and spring coils will be needing. It is always better to replace the spring coils with originals, not aftermarket models, because the increase in reliability and durability is well worth the small additional cost. This needs to be carried out every 5,000-8,000 rounds.

As for the slide-lock spring and trigger spring, these should last up to around the 10,000 round mark.

Apart from that, all it will need is the usual occasional lubrication to keep the trigger pull smooth.

Modification and Customization

The first and probably most necessary modification is to replace the plastic sights with any set of iron sights you prefer.

A talon grip can also be added to improve the grip, along with an extended magazine release to make dropping and changing mags much easier and faster. For those with larger hands, you can change the base plate for a larger one, and undercutting the trigger guard will give the user a snug grip.

For those with extra cash to spend, a Reflect Sight can be added, and the red dot can be replaced.

The G19 G4 is highly customizable, both with Glock and aftermarket parts, so you can modify it as required for your needs.

Price

For the quality you’re getting, the G19 is very reasonably priced, making this a highly accurate and reliable weapon that is affordable to many.
